The Honda Classic March 15- 21st – Delray Beach News

January 18, 2021 by luxadmin

The 2021 Honda Classic PGA Golf Tournament Delray Beach

Here is some exciting news for golf enthusiasts;  with Covid protocols in place that include the mandatory use of facial coverings, social distancing and other health and safety measures the 2021 Honda Classic plans to welcome golf spectators. Organizers say for the health and well-being for all involved in the tournament and the local community, that daily attendance will be limited.
While the Honda Classic was named the Most Fan-First event of 2019 by the PGA TOUR, attendance records will not be broken in 2021. Tournament officials say they are building a unique and first-class fan experience, provided in a safe and responsible manner while continuing to make a significant charitable impact throughout South Florida.

There will be a re-imagined Bear Trap on the 17th hole with social distancing guidelines. The 18th hole footprint will be different too, but there will be fans waiting there on Sunday when the new Honda champion is crowned.

“We are being conservative in our planning as we continue to navigate the pandemic,” Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly said. “We want to do everything possible to make sure that The Honda Classic will be a great experience and continue to make a significant charitable impact on the thousands of children in our community whose lives we are able to enhance every year.”

The Bear Trap, which usually winds around the 16th green and 17th hole tee box area, is being transformed into three sections with limited seating in socially-distanced blocks of two and four seats.

Advance reservations for The Bear Trap and other shared and private hospitality areas are now being taken through email at sales@thehondaclassic.com or by phone at 561-799-4638. General admission ticket sales will begin at a later date.

The traditional Pro-Am events, essential for the golf tournament’s charitable endeavors, will be contested during the week, with amateur participants being tested prior to those competitions. In other words, the show will go on, with tournament officials building a number of contingency plans. Final details on all areas will be announced in the near future.

“With so much uncertainty across all categories of the business, we have really focused on prioritizing flexibility with our site planning,” Tournament Director Andrew George said. “We’ve worked collaboratively with our vendors to delay the start of construction.”

Adding, “We are frequently updating our health & safety protocols as we receive new guidance or best practices. And our hospitality venues will be strategically altered to provide a first-class entertainment option while facilitating social distancing.”

Protocols will be put in place that include the mandatory use of facial coverings, social distancing and other health and safety measures. All permanent and temporary structures will have complete daily sanitation along with all golf carts and vehicles used in tournament operations.

Organizers say all interactions from start to finish including ticketing, admissions, merchandise, and concessions will be contactless and safety measures regarding food preparation and distribution will be in place.

In late June, the PGA put into place stringent pre-tournament COVID-19 testing. Players and caddies are required to return a negative “in-market test” before being allowed into facilities at all, and that’s after being tested before traveling to the tournament.

The Honda Classic Giving Back to South Florida

The Honda Classic awarded a record-shattering $5.35 million to 103 South Florida philanthropic organizations in 2020, the14th consecutive year that the PGA TOUR event has been able to increase its impact on the lives of local children and their families. Honda Classic Cares is also considering additional ways to raise money this year to minimize the impact of a possible reduced charity distribution because of limited crowds and hospitality venues.

The Honda Classic has now surpassed $50 million in charitable contributions as American Honda approaches its 40th year as title sponsor of the PGA TOUR event, including almost $35 million in the 14 years since Children’s Healthcare Charity, Inc. became the host organization and moved the event to PGA National Resort and Spa. The $5.35 million is impacting more than 91,000 children and their families this year in Palm Beach County.

Small Business Week – South Florida

May 9, 2019 by luxadmin

Small Business Week

Small businesses are flourishing in South Florida, many of them got their start in the buildings of Yomtob Properties.  Ben Yomtob supports small business growth in the region and offers some of the most luxurious office space in the area.

CBS 12 recently aired a segment and Blog Post on Small Business Week; here it is rebroadcast.

Small business owners and entrepreneurs are being recognized this week for the big role they play in communities across the country, including here in South Florida and along the Treasure Coast.

It’s all part of National Small Business Week.

Anyone who owns a business or has attempted to start one knows how difficult and overwhelming it can be; for the owners of the Lighthouse Diner in Jupiter it all started when they inherited the restaurant after their father passed away.

Ryan Perez, one of the three brothers who now own the diner, told us he was just about to open a restaurant in New York when it happened. He made the trip to Jupiter under the assumption the brothers would just fix the diner up and lease it to other owners but soon his plans changed.

“I saw this place and within about a week to ten days, I fell completely in love with it,” he said. “I got my brother on the first plane and we started working.”

Fast forward seven years, they say the diner has become somewhat of a local landmark, one they hope continues to grow.

Perez says the diner, which has a great view of the Jupiter lighthouse, has been around for decades and that part of being a good business owner means staying consistent.

“We are family-owned, home-cooking, affordable for everybody. This has been here since the 1950’s and this has been a landmark here so the thing I was scared about was, I did not want to ruin this name here. I wanted to keep this name going.”

While it is their goal to stay true to what customers know and love, Perez says they’ve also been forced to change with the times. That means learning to take full advantage of social media from a business standpoint.

“I had to learn to do all of that,” he said. “We do all the Instagram, Facebook; we try to get on all the formats.”

Whatever your business may be, Perez said most importantly it’s about being present and having a strong team of support.

“Hands on; be here everyday. If you are an absentee owner, it is hard to get the place off the floor. You have to rely on yourself and your staff.”

Aside from the expected networking benefits that come with joining a local chamber of commerce, there are also free workshops and mentoring opportunities available.

For example, Joseph Catrambone, the CEO at the Stuart Martin County Chamber of Commerce told us they have volunteers who will sit down with aspiring entrepreneurs to offer free consulting and guidance when it comes to drafting a business plan as well as offer workshops on customer service and how to utilize technology.

At the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce, they offer the1909 Business Accelerator which is a startup boot camp that helps train you to start a business. The group meets one night per week for eight weeks. The program also includes personalized mentorships and concludes with “pitch night,” giving entrepreneurs a chance to pitch their business in front of local investors.

The City of Delray Beach’s Office of Economic Development has also declared May as “We Love Small Biz Month.”

There are a lot of free workshops throughout the month that you can take advantage of. Click here for the full list of events.

South Florida has some of the Best Cities to Start a Small Business

September 6, 2018 by luxadmin

Best Cities to Start a Small Business are in South Florida

A recent news report by Verizon Business shows that entrepreneurs looking to start a small business in a small city have some of the best options for locations right here in South Florida.  Weston ranks No. 2 in that category nationally, according to a new report by Verizon Business, while Delray Beach came in at No. 5.

Factors considered in Verizon’s study include population, education, travel time to work, income per capita, loans per capita, broadband access and tax scores. (The report notes that to be considered a “small city” according to the U.S. census, the population must fall between 50,000 to 75,000 people.)

Only Portland, Maine, was a more attractive small city for starting a small business than Weston.

“Being [No.] 8 among the top 100 safest cities in the country is reassuring for a fledgling business,” Verizon’s report says of Weston. “This is also the most educated city in the top 10, with nearly 60% of the population holding at least a bachelor’s degree. So Weston has got a lot going for it, and people are taking notice. The only downside to setting up shop here is the commute to work, which runs at about half an hour, but hey — you’re not far from the beach and the Everglades are basically in the city’s backyard, so let’s call it even.”

The South Florida lifestyle also played a role in Delray Beach ranking so high.

“There’s more of a draw to this city than its spread of sunny beaches along the southeastern coast of the state,” the report says. “Not quite as high on the education scale as Weston but higher than Kissimmee, Delray Beach is a happy Floridian medium with the shortest average commute time between the three cities. It enjoys a thriving industry of restaurants, nightclubs, retail shops, and art galleries, which is important to keep in mind when considering where to put your business’s roots down. And hey, the beach might not be the most important thing, but a beach day every now and then definitely couldn’t hurt.”

Florida wound up with eight cities in the top 50, the others being Kissimmee (No. 7), Daytona Beach (11), North Port (39) and Sarasota (44).

  1. Portland, Maine
  2. Weston, Florida
  3. Missoula, Montana
  4. Southfield, Michigan
  5. Delray Beach, Florida
